A Japandi Spread | Our 2021 Holiday Tablescape

For this year's winter tablescape, we combine two design styles that offer a bright and minimalistic alternative to the traditional holiday spread: Scandinavian design, which brings with it functionality, simplicity, and levity, and Japanese design, which blends interior design with nature and promotes balance. Read on for the full collection of inspiring holiday decor pieces that can be easily incorporated into your winter table, and be sure to download the accompanying menu and placecard designs for the perfect finishing touch.

A Neutral Foundation

Japandi (Japanese + Scandinavian) design is all about bringing the outside inside. The natural warmth that raw wood can bring to the table is key, literally.

Start with this as the foundation for your dinner to help ground the space.

Setting The Tone

The color palette should consist of muted, earthy tones, think: off-white, beige and terracotta hues. This doesn’t mean you can’t play around with patterns or motifs- just keep the textiles cohesive with those colors. A woven table runner made with a natural material will complement the theme, giving the tablescape texture and helping to create a relaxing atmosphere. Place settings with subtle patterns, like a speckled cork mat or linen napkins with a graphic print, can also make a great addition.

Thoughtful Tableware

Japandi style is all about clean lines and keeping things clutter-free. Set your table up to just contain necessities. All items should be aesthetically pleasing yet highly functional. We like these minimal candle holders in a brushed brass finish for an elegant accent. Opt for ceramic bowls and serving dishes to continue the organic feel.

Finish Festive

Don’t forget to add a touch of seasonal sparkle. Modern decor like these concrete pinecone ornaments and mini carved wood winter trees will seamlessly fit within your Japandi theme.

The Free Printables

And finally, the much awaited release - the Printables! This year, we designed a menu inspired by the simplicity of the Japandi design style featuring earth tones and an abstract illustration that’ll fit right in with your minimal table setting.
